ANC statement on the death of COSATU Deputy President Violet Seboni
The African National Congress (ANC) is shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) Deputy President, Comrade Violet Seboni, who was killed in a car accident while travelling to Mafikeng in the North West for an ANC election campaign.
The immense contribution made by Comrade Seboni in the struggle for a democratic South Africa, particularly her leading role in the fight for the rights of workers in South Africa and the SADC region has been remarkable.
Her death has robbed COSATU, the Tripartite Alliance and the country of a committed cadre of our movement who pulled all stops to ensure that the ANC's win in the 22 April election becomes an overwhelming victory for the South African working class.
At its gatherings, the ANC will observe a moment of silence in tribute to this fallen heroine of our struggle.
We send our condolences to her family, relatives, friends and comrades at COSATU and the Alliance.
May her soul rest in peace.
