ANC welcomes artists in defence of the ANC

4 November 2008

The African National Congress welcomes the initiative by a number of artists to organise themselves into a grouping to mobilise support for the values, principles and programmes of the ANC.

The group launched their campaign in Newtown, Johannesburg today (4 November 2008).

This initiative shows the sense of ownership and responsibility that South Africans feel towards the ANC. The ANC is the only party with a vision, plan and policies to ensure the creation of a better life for all. It has been able to maintain this role because of its democratic nature and practices and its ability to balance diverse views with united action.

These artists express the views of many when they say that the ANC is their movement, and that its values are their values. The ANC`s achievements are similarly their achievements.

The ANC is calling on all those who see the ANC as their movement to defend the integrity of the organisation, uphold its values and shape its programmes.

To this end, the ANC is calling on South Africans to get involved in the process of crafting the organisation`s manifesto for the 2009 elections, by participating in discussions within ANC branches and public meetings in preparation for the ANC Manifesto Policy Conference at the end of November.

The IEC will open all voting stations this weekend, on 8-9 November 2008. We appeal to all patriotic South African citizens to go and register in their voting stations and to check their registration details.

By registering to vote, South Africans will have a say on their own future by determining the direction the country should take.

Have your say. Register now to vote. Shape your future and make it happen.
