ANC warns against intolerance

8 November 2008

The African National Congress has received a report of a skirmish between ANC supporters and supporters of the so-called Shikota party in Upington in the Northern Cape earlier today (8 November 2008).

The ANC warns all its members and supporters against any acts of intolerance or confrontation. Any ANC member who is involved in such activities will face stern disciplinary action.

We trust that all other parties will act with equal swiftness in clamping down on any acts of intolerance among their members or supporters.

The ANC calls on supporters of all parties to treat the democratic process with respect, and to work together to ensure that it is free, fair and peaceful.
