ANC statement on reports of NPA`s decision to charge Ramatlhodi

20 November 2008

The African National Congress (ANC) has noted media reports attributed to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) that it has decided to charge ANC National Executive Committee Member (NEC) Ngoako Ramatlhodi.

While the ANC respects due process, it is concerned that the matter has dragged on for years, causing great harm and prejudice to Ramatlhodi, and has damaged his efforts to be admitted as an advocate.

The ANC condemns the approach by the NPA to charge Ramatlhodi through the media without any legal papers having been served on him. We have always questioned what we have seen as a trend by the NPA of making public announcements to charge ANC leaders via the media.
