ANC statement on the election of Paul Mashatile as Premier of Gauteng

7 October 2008

The African National Congress (ANC) congratulates its Gauteng ANC Chairperson Paul Mashatile on being elected provincial premier.

His election signals the commitment by the ANC on the smooth running of the provincial Government since the recent resignation of former premier Mbhazima Shilowa.

The ANC has always prided itself on having a pool of cadres, ready to take on any task given to them by the organisation.

Having served the ANC and the Gauteng Government in various capacities, comrade Mashatile brings a wealth of experience to the position of premier.

We have confidence in him taking on the socio-economic and political issues outlined at the ANC Polokwane 52nd national conference, to greater heights in the Gauteng province.

The ANC will now waste no time and focus all its energies on preparing and winning the 2009 elections.
