ANC saddened by the passing of ICT activist Comrade Libby Loyd

19 January 2018

The African National Congress has received with sadness the passing on of a passionate development activist and selfless servant of our people, Comrade Libby Loyd. Comrade Libby passed on yesterday, 18 January 2018, after a courageous battle against illness. Comrade Libby's passing is deep loss to the ANC and South Africa's Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Sector she was a transformative participant in.

Comrade Libby Loyd served, with commitment, selflessness and dignity, as a member of ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) Subcommittee on Communications. She was a journalist and professional in ICT sector who contributed enormously to the work of the movement from the days of Radio Freedom, training broadcasters in preparation for the new democratic dispensation to the Institute of the Advancement of Journalism (IAJ), the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) , the Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA), amongst others in a democratic South Africa. Her legacy is felt in ICT Policy and Regulatory framework guiding our country through her inputs.

The African National Congress sends its deepest condolences to the family of Comrade Libby Loyd. The South Africa ICT landscape and our revolutionary movement is, without a doubt, that much poorer for her passing.
