ANC mourns the death of Esther Barsel
7 October 2008
The African National Congress was deeply saddened to learn of the death yesterday (6 October 2008) of Esther Barsel, a stalwart of the ANC and Communist Party, at the age of 83.
We pay homage to this gallant revolutionary who was unwavering in her commitment and dedication to the struggle for a democratic and just South Africa.
A member of the Communist Party since the 1940s, Barsel was a tireless political activist, who remained engaged in struggle even until the end of her life.
The ANC will forever treasure the contribution made by Esther Barsel in the struggle for liberation and the building of our democracy.
The ANC extends its condolences to her family, friends and comrades.
May her soul rest in peace.
