The ANC establishes a task team to interact with COSATU

17 September 2013

The National Working Committee met yesterday, 16 September 2013, and discussed amongst others the need to sustain the engagement with Cosatu with a view to assist in resolving the challenges facing the federation. The NWC gave a directive to the following Comrades to institute a Task Team that will engage the federation: Comrades; Cyril Ramaphosa (Head of the team), Baleka Mbete, Gwede Mantashe, Zweli Mkhize, Mildred Olifant,, Suzzane Shabangu, Conny Sepember and Ebrahim Patel.

This decision is a follow up on the discussions on the ‘State of the Alliance’ that were pursued during the last Alliance Summit that took place in Saint George Hotel in Pretoria a few weeks ago. It is the view of the NWC that it is in the interest of the ANC, our Alliance partners and broad mass democratic movement to find a lasting solution that will allow Cosatu to unite and continue to lead the struggle of the workers and the labour movement broadly.

An urgent meeting will be arranged with Cosatu leadership and consultations will also take place with other Alliance partners to communicate our decision. We are confident that the current phase of challenges facing Cosatu will be overcome. We want to express our appreciation to the efforts made by founder members of Cosatu to intervene in resolving the current impasse within Cosatu.
