ANC concerned about missing Zimbabwean activists

10 December 2008

The African National Congress is concerned at reports of the disappearance and possible abduction of human rights activists in Zimbabwe.

The ANC urges the government of Zimbabwe as a matter of urgency to try determine the whereabouts of Jestina Mukoko, Broderick Takawira and Pascal Gonzo of the Zimbabwe Peace Project.

Mukoko has been missing since 3 December 2008, when she was reportedly forcibly taken from her home at dawn. Takawira and Gonzo were reportedly taken from their place of work.

Every effort should be made to establish where these individuals are, and that they are safe.

The ANC urges all parties in Zimbabwe to find a solution to the current political impasse as a matter of urgency.
